(MARTINSVILLE, VA) - Jimmie Johnson passed Denny Hamlin with 16 laps remaining to win Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia.

Hamlin led a race-high 296 laps but could not hold off the three-time defending Sprint Cup champion, who bumped his way under Hamlin and into the lead on lap 484.

Tony Stewart was third with Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer rounding out the top five.

With his fourth-place finish, Gordon extends his Sprint Cup points lead to 89 over Bowyer.
