Girl IHSAA Tournament Wraps Up This Weekend

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The IHSAA girls basketball season wraps up Saturday with championship games in the four classes at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The morning session begins with the Class-A battle between Fort Wayne Canterbury and Vincennes Rivet. Canterbury is going for its second-consecutive 1A title after knocking off University in the championship game last year. Rivet is going for its first girls basketball championship.

Oak hill and Heritage Christian follow in the 2A game. It is a rematch of the 2008 championship game as Heritage Christian beat Oak Hill 53-31 last March to claim the school's third girls basketball title. The Eagles are led by senior forward Kelly Farris, a McDonalds All-America and Miss Basketball candidate who averages 14 points and almost nine rebounds and five assists per game.

The evening session commences with the Class 3A title game with Fort Wayne Elmhurst facing Owen Valley. Both the Trojans and the Patriots are making their inaugural appearances in the girls basketball title game.

The tournament concludes with a battle of unbeatens as South Bend Washington and Ben Davis square off for the Class 4A championship. The Panthers are 26-and-0 and are led by Miss Basketball candidate Skylar Diggins, who averages 29 points, six rebounds and six assists per game. The Giants are 29-and-0 and are led by Penn State recruit Alex Bentley who averages 15.6 points per contest.
