(CHARLOTTE, NC) - Former Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Ron Meeks was named defensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers on Monday.

The 54-year-old Meeks replaces Mike Trgovac, who resigned last week despite being offered a contract extension.

Meeks' hiring leaves three openings on Panther Head Coach John Fox' staff.

Meeks resigned last week after seven seasons as the Colts' defensive coordinator. He came with former head coach Tony Dungy to Indianapolis from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002.
