(NEW YORK, NY) - The New York jets plan on interviewing Colts Defensive Coordinator Ron Meeks Friday for their vacant head coaching job.
Meeks has been the Colts' defensive coordinator for the last seven seasons and was a candidate for the Washington Redskins vacancy last season. The Washington job went to Jim Zorn.
Jets management has already met with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and reportedly has met with Boston College Head Coach Jeff Jagodzinski.
ESPN reported Sunday that Boston College Athletic Director Gene Difilippo threatened Jagodzinski with firing should the BC coach interview for the New York opening.
The Jets are scheduled to meet with Assistant Head Coach Bill Callahan today.
Meeks would be the first minority candidate to interview for the Jets' vacancy, a requirement of the NFL's "Rooney rule" which mandates that teams interview minority candidates for head coach openings.
The Jets fired Eric Mangini the day after the regular season ended as New York failed to make the playoffs for the second-consecutive season.
