(SOUTH BEND, IN) - Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis underwent successful surgery on Monday to replace his right knee. He is expected to have surgery on his left knee at some point.
Weis tore the anterior cruciate, medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments in the left knee as well as the lateral meniscus when Notre Dame defensive end John Ryan was blocked into him on the sidelines during a game on September 13th.
The problem with the right knee flared up as Weis favored it while keeping off his left knee.
The 52-year-old Weis is expected to be hospitalized for a day or two and will require several months of rehabilitation.
