(HONOLULU, HI) - The longest bowl losing streak in NCAA history is over as the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame pounded the Hawaii Warriors 49-21 at the Hawaii Bowl in Honolulu.
Quarterback Jimmy Clausen had a huge night for the Irish, completing 22 of 26 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns.
Robert Hughes put Notre Dame on the board in the first quarter with a two-yard touchdown run to give the Irish a 7-0 lead. Clausen threw three TD passes in the second quarter and Notre Dame took a 28-7 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Clausen threw two more touchdown passes in the third quarter and Armando Allen returned a kickoff 96 yards for another score as the Irish led 49-14 at the end of three.
Golden Tate caught six passes for 177 yards and three scores while Hughes was the leading rusher for Notre Dame with 17 carries for 55 yards and a touchdown.
Notre Dame's defense held the warriors to 32 yards rushing with Greg Alexander completing 23 of 39 passes for 271 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
Backup quarterback Inoke Funaki came in late for Hawaii and completed all five of his passes, including a 27-yard touchdown with 1:45 remaining to make the final score 49-21.
The win snapped Notre Dame's nine-game losing streak in bowls, a streak that dates back to 1994. The Irish finish the season at 7-and-6 while Hawaii falls to 7-and-7.
