Dungy May Hold Back Colts Players This Sunday

Last updated on Monday, December 22, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts are enjoying a four-day break. They won’t return to the practice field until Wednesday when they begin preparing for their regular-season finale with the Tennessee Titans.

The Colts won their eighth game in a row on Thursday night, coming from behind to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-24 in Jacksonville. That win locked up a wild card berth and the number-five seed in the AFC playoffs for the horseshoes.

Since the Colts cannot move up or down in their playoff positioning, Head Coach Tony Dungy said Friday that they will likely approach Sunday's finale the way they have in years past when they had nothing to gain. That means protecting players with even minor injuries and possibly removing starters from the game early.

The Titans beat Pittsburgh on Sunday to improve to 13-and-2 and clinch home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. The Titans are in the same boat as the Colts in that they gain no advantage in the playoffs with a win on Sunday.

Defensive linemen Albert Haynesworth and Kyle Vanden Bosch were already expected to miss this weekend's game and Tennessee Coach Jeff Fisher may decide to keep some of his other key players out.

The Titans won the first meeting between the two teams this season, taking a 31-21 decision in Nashville on a Monday night late in October. That was the last game the Colts lost this season.
