4 Colts Selected For Pro Bowl

Last updated on Wednesday, December 17, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Four Colts have been selected to the AFC Pro Bowl squad.

Peyton Manning will start at quarterback for the AFC. It is the ninth time in his eleven-year career that Manning has made the AFC roster and he is on the Pro Bowl team for the seventh-consecutive year. The two-time league MVP has come on strong following offseason knee surgery that hampered him early in the season.

Wide receiver Reggie Wayne will head to Hawaii for the third-straight year. Wayne surpassed 1,000 yards receiving for the fifth time in his career in last Sunday's win over Detroit.

Defensive end Robert Mathis will make the trip to Honolulu for the first time in his six-year NFL career. Mathis leads the Colts in sacks this season with 11.5, 6.5 of those have come in the last two games.

For the first time in 31 years, the Colts will send both defensive ends to the Pro Bowl as Dwight Freeney returns to the annual gathering of all-stars for the fourth time.

John Dutton and Mike Barnes represented the Baltimore Colts at defensive end at the Pro Bowl following the 1977 season.

Freeney has 9.5 sacks this season as he has rebounded nicely from a season-ending foot injury last year.

Manning and Freeney were named to the team as starters while Wayne and Mathis will serve as reserves.

Manning's brother Eli made the NFC team for the first time in his career. It marks the first time that quarterback-playing brothers will appear in the same Pro Bowl.
