Tinsley Definitely Out, Says Bird

Last updated on Monday, September 29, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indiana Pacers will hold their annual media day today at Conseco Fieldhouse with training camp getting underway on Tuesday.

Team President Larry Bird met with the media on Friday and reiterated his stance that the team will not buy out the remaining three years of point guard Jamaal Tinsley's contract and that Tinsley will remain on the roster until he is traded.

Despite the fact that Tinsley remains under contract to the Pacers, Bird says the seven-year veteran will not return. Tinsley's tenure has been marked by injuries and off-court distractions, prompting Bird to acquire veteran point guards TJ Ford and Jarrett Jack. The Ford deal cost the Pacers the face of the franchise in all-star big man Jermaine O'Neal.

One player who is returning is Austin Croshere. Croshere, who spent the first nine years of his NBA career with the Pacers, does not have a guaranteed contract and will have to make the team.

Including Tinsley, the pacers have 16 players with guaranteed contracts for a 15-man roster.
