Linebacker Replaces QB In Stars Double OT Victory

Last updated on Monday, September 8, 2008

(JEFFERSONVILLE) - Kam Korvela jumped up from linebacking duties and slid into play calling duties for the BNL Stars after junior backup Jacob Perry went down with a back injury this Friday night.

For the second time in three weeks the Stars leading play caller went down with a injury. In the season opener, quarterback Jase Gratzer suffered a season ending knee injury, forcing backup Perry into the lead role for the Stars.

The Stars trailed 21-0 at the half but an outstanding second half performance by Korvela and others forced the game into the first overtime. The Stars momentum began with a blocked punt by Brian Martin early in the third quarter that teammate Landon Duncan recovered and then rushed in for a Stars' touchdown.

An onside kick followed the touchdown and a push to the endzone was capped by an acrobatic one-handed catch by tailback Logan Brown which kept the Stars' scoring hopes alive and eventually forced the game into the first overtime.

Both the Stars and Red Devils scored in the first overtime, forcing both teams to pusher harder and come up with scoring plays in the second round of overtime play.

The Stars final touchdown and winning extra point came down to a fake field goal by the combo of Andy Webb and John Thomas. Jeffersonville followed up with a touchdown of their own, only to have their hopes batted down when cornerback Tyson Robbins saved the Stars from a two point conversion by the Red Devils.

When the ball hit the ground, a group of BNL students and fans rushed the field to celebrate one of the biggest comebacks in school history.

With the win, the Stars move to 2-1 on the season and will travel to New Albany to face the Bulldogs this Friday night. Tune in for all of the action with the voice of the BNL Stars, Myron Rainey, starting at 7pm on your home to the Stars, 1340 AM WBIW.
