IU's Lewis Shares Player Of The Week Honors

Last updated on Monday, September 1, 2008

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Indiana University quarterback Kellen Lewis is the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on offense. He shares the honor with Illinois quarterback Juice Williams.

Lewis rushed nine times for 185 yards and two touchdowns while completing 17-of-27 passes for 144 yards and two more scores in the Hoosiers' 31-13 win over Western Kentucky last Saturday.

Lewis started his big day with a 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, the longest of his career. He would add a 62-yard TD run, becoming the first IU player to score on two touchdown runs of 60-yards or longer in the same game.

With the two TD throws, the junior from Jacksonville, Florida broke Antwaan Randle El's school record for career touchdown passes. Lewis now has 44.

It is the fifth time in his career that Lewis has won player of the week honors, one shy of the school record of six held by Randle El and Anthony Thompson. Former Wisconsin running back Ron Dayne holds the conference record with nine career player of the week awards.

The Hoosiers host Murray State on Saturday.
