Last updated on Monday, September 15, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Italy’s Valentino Rossi won Sunday’s inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Rossi passed American Nicky Haydon on lap 14 of the race, which was red-flagged on lap 20 due to rain and windy conditions. The race was scheduled to go 26 laps on the 2.6-mile road course at the speedway.

Jorge Lorenzo of Spain finished third followed by Australia's Casey Stoner.

The win was Rossi's seventh this season and his fourth in a row as he moved closer to a sixth Moto GP title.

This weekend's event marked the first time motorcycles had raced at the speedway since 1909.
