Indians Fire Manager, Hitting Coach

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Indians announced Monday that Manager Trent Jewett and hitting coach Hensley Meulens will not return to the club in 2009.

Jewett spent four seasons as manager of the Tribe, going 291 and 281 with a trip to the International League finals in 2005.

Jewett has spent 17 seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Meulens also came to Indianapolis in 2005 following a 17-year playing career, including eight seasons with the New York Yankees organization.
