Colts' Sanders Out 4-6 Weeks, Says Polian

Last updated on Wednesday, September 17, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts return to practice today as they begin installing the game plan for Sunday’s game with the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Colts evened their record at 1-and-1 with a win at Minnesota last weekend. The horseshoes are one game behind first-place Tennessee in the AFC South. The Jaguars are 0-and-2 following losses to the Titans and the Buffalo Bills.

Safety Bob Sanders Out 4-6 Weeks

A high ankle sprain is expected to keep Colts safety Bob Sanders on the sidelines for four to six weeks. Team President Bill Polian confirmed the time frame in an interview with WISH-TV in Indianapolis as part of his weekly television show.

Polian also says that Sanders could undergo an arthroscopic "cleanup" of one of his knees while he recovers from the ankle sprain. Sanders is the reigning NFL defensive player of the year. He suffered the injury in the third quarter of the Colts win at Minnesota last Sunday. Melvin Bullitt replaced Sanders in the lineup following the injury.

Colts Injury Report

Head Coach Tony Dungy should know more about the Colts' other injured players when the team returns to practice this afternoon.

Starting left tackle Tony Ugoh left Sunday's win over the Vikings with a groin injury and did not return. Dungy also expressed hope that Pro Bowl center Jeff Saturday and tight end Dallas Clark will practice this week and be available for Sunday's game with Jacksonville.

The Jaguars have problems with the middle of their offensive line. Starting tackles Vince Manuwai and Maurice Williams are on injured reserve and center Brad Meester is expected to miss Sunday's game with a bicep injury.

Injuries to the offensive line has stifled both teams' offenses. The Colts are ranked 32nd in rushing offense while the Jags are ranked 28th.
