(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts suffered defeat on opening night for the first time in four years as they fell to the Chicago Bears 29-13 in the regular season opener at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Chicago took the lead for good in the first quarter when rookie Matt Forte ran up the middle 50 yards for a touchdown. Forte finished with 123 yards on the ground while Kyle Orton directed a mistake-free offense, finishing with 150 yards passing.
Colts quarterback Peyton Manning completed 30-of-49 passes for 257 yards with a six-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Wayne.
The Colts suffered a pair of significant injuries during last night's loss to the Bears. Tight end Dallas Clark left the game with an apparent knee injury in the first. He returned briefly in the second quarter but spent the second half in street clothes.
Running back Joseph Addai took a big hit from Chicago linebacker Lance Briggs early in the fourth quarter and left with what the team termed a head injury. He did not return.
The loss snapped a string of 21-straight wins for the Colts in the months of September and October. The last time the horseshoes lost in the first two months of a season was when they dropped the season-opener to the defending champion New England Patriots in Foxborough in 2004.
