Last updated on Tuesday, August 26, 2008

(UNDATED) - The college football season gets underway this week with a pair of state schools opening their seasons on Thursday night.

The Ball State Cardinals play host to Northeastern on Thursday. Brady Hoke's Cardinals are coming off a 7-and-6 season which saw Ball State wind up in a bowl game.

The Cardinals are led by junior quarterback Nate Davis, who already holds the school record for career touchdown passes with 48 in just two seasons.

In the championship subdivision, Indiana State opens Thursday on the road at Eastern Michigan. The Sycamores are coming off a dismal 0-and-11 season and are looking to turn it around under new head coach Trent Miles.

Indiana University opens its season on Saturday as the Hoosiers host Western Kentucky.

The Hoosiers are entering their second season with Bill Lynch as head coach. Lynch led IU to its first bowl game in 14 years in 2007 as the Hoosiers finished with a 7-and-6 mark.
