Stewart Fined By USAC, Issues Apology

Last updated on Tuesday, July 29, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Tony Stewart was fined $10,000 dollars and his team was placed on probation for the rest of the season by the United States Auto Club on Monday.

The penalties were punishment for what USAC deemed was unsportsmanlike conduct and conduct detrimental to racing during last Thursday night's midget race at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Clermont.

Stewart knocked a headset of one USAC official and shoved another following a ruling involving Stewart's car, which was being driven by Tracy Hines.

Stewart issued a release apologizing for the incident, saying he misinterpreted the regulations and let his emotions get the better of him. Stewart also volunteered to pay the cost of new radios and uniforms for USAC officials.
