(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Indiana University has released details of Athletic Director Rick Greenspan’s resignation agreement with the school.
Greenspan will receive more than $400,000 dollars in severance payments and has agreed not to sue the university when steps down at the end of the year. The agreement also contains a clause allowing Greenspan to "retain rights to any book he may wish to write and publish".
Greenspan announced his resignation effective at the end of the year on Thursday. The announcement came the same day the NCAA committee on infractions leveled a charge of "failure to monitor" on IU in the midst of additional charges surrounding the men's basketball program.
Indiana University President Michael McRobbie says that it was not worth the risk for the school to hire former basketball Coach Kelvin Sampson. McRobbie made his comments before the NCAA infractions committee in Seattle on June 14th. IU released a transcript of McRobbie's testimony before the NCAA on Monday.
Sampson, whose contract was bought out by IU in February, was accused of knowingly and repeatedly breaking recruiting restrictions and then lying about it to university and NCAA investigators. Sampson was hired by McRobbie's predecessor, Adam Herbert, in 2006. McRobbie took over as Indiana's president one year ago today.
