IndyCar Driver Comes Down With The Mumps

Last updated on Thursday, July 10, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - HVM Racing has withdrawn its entry from Saturday’s Firestone Indy 200 at Nashville Superspeedway.

Driver EJ Viso has the mumps and is currently undergoing treatment for the contagious illness.

IndyCar Series officials met with HVM team management and determined that it was in the best interest of everyone that the #33 car not compete this weekend.

Indy Racing League officials have notified the Indiana State Department of Health and the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention as is required by law.

The IRL also held a conference call Wednesday to inform the other teams, drivers and suppliers of the situation.
