10 Scholarships Left For IU Basketball Squad

Last updated on Thursday, July 3, 2008

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - The mass exodus from Bloomington will cost the Indiana University basketball program two more scholarships.

The university announced it was giving up the two scholarships in anticipation of penalties related to the NCAA's academic progress rate.

The APR measures retention and eligibility of players over a rolling four-year period.
Teams can lose scholarships if their APR drops below a certain level and they have a player who left school early and would not have been academically eligible if he had stayed.

Since last season, IU has lost seven players with eligibility remaining. This penalty, combined with the scholarship lost as a self-punishment in the wake of rules violations involving former coach Kelvin Sampson, leaves IU with ten scholarships in men's basketball.
