Lucas Oil Stadium Will Open On Time, Says Manager

Last updated on Wednesday, June 18, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - With opening night a little more than two months away, those in charge of building Lucas Oil Stadium say that the new home of the Indianapolis Colts will open on time.

Scott Blanchard, the contract manager for Hunt Construction Company, says that construction is more than 90% complete. There are still some seats to be installed and the floor of the stadium is bare concrete as more than 1200 workers try to beat the August deadline.

Blanchard says that there may be some finishing touches that won't be completed until after the stadium opens, but those will not be noticed by the public.

One of the more intriguing tests will take place in mid-July when about 200 workers will flush the toilets and turn on the water faucets simultaneously to make sure there will be enough water pressure when fans head to the restrooms at halftime.

The Colts are scheduled to face the Buffalo Bills on August 24th in a preseason game at the new stadium, but that won't be the first test. A pair of high school games will be played as part of the annual Peyback Classic on August 22nd.
