(UNDATED) - Two Indiana natives and three more with Indiana college connections were selected in the first day of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.
Although none went in the first round, two went early in the day. Lance Lynn of the University of Mississippi went to the St. Louis Cardinals with the 39th overall pick, a supplemental pick between the first and second rounds. The former Indiana Mr. Baseball from Brownsburg High School is a 6-foot-5 250-pound right-handed pitcher.
Purdue University right-handed pitcher Josh Lindblom was the 61st overall pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Notre Dame pitcher Kyle Weiland went to the Boston Red Sox 108th at the end of the third round, Purdue outfielder Ryne White was taken by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fourth round, and Fort Wayne native Justin Parker, a shortstop, was picked by Arizona in the sixth round. Parker's younger brother Jarrod, was Arizona's top pick, the ninth overall, last season.
No current Indiana high school players were selected.
Greensburg's 6-foot-7 pitcher Alex Meyer was projected as a high pick and Meyer said he had a team interested in taking him in the first round, but he has decided to attend the University of Kentucky.
