Rookies Hit Speedway For Two Days Of ROP

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Ten drivers passed all four phases of rookie orientation as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway opened for two days of ROP on Sunday.

Will Power turned in the fastest lap of the day at 220.694 miles per hour. E.J. Viso and Oriol Servia also had laps above 220 miles per hour. Alex Lloyd, Hideki Mutoh, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Jaime Camara, Graham Rahal, Justin Wilson and Jay Howard all passed their rookie tests. Enrique Bernoldi passed three of the four phases and should finish his test today when day two of ROP begins at noon eastern time.

A twelfth rookie, Mario Moraes, did three shakedown laps before pulling his car back into the pits while the lone remaining rookie, Mario Dominguez, did not appear on the track Sunday.

Veteran Max Papis, who last ran in the 500 in 2006, was granted track time with the rookies and topped out at just over 214 miles per hour.

Two more veteran drivers, Davey Hamilton and Bruno Junqueira, are expected to take their refresher courses today.

The remaining veterans will take to the speedway on Tuesday for the first day of practice for all drivers.
