Rookies Hit Indy Oval, Vets Take Weekend Off

Last updated on Friday, May 2, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Motor Speedway opens for rookie orientation and rookie practice on Sunday.

The veterans will begin practicing for the 92nd Indianapolis 500 on Tuesday of next week.

The two days of ROP will be more active this year thanks to the influx of new drivers from the former Champ Car World Series who will be making their Indianapolis debuts. Thirteen rookies are on the entry list with only Oriol Servia excused from mandatory participation in ROP due to his past experience on ovals.

The week of practice builds up to the first weekend of time trials on May 10th and 11th. The remainder of the field will be determined in the final weekend of qualifications with the 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500 being held on Sunday, May 25th.
