Pacers Begin Rebuilding Process

Last updated on Monday, May 19, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The efforts to rebuild the Indiana Pacers could receive a boost at Tuesday night’s NBA Draft lottery.

The Pacers are slotted to pick eleventh in the draft which gives them about a 1% chance of landing one of the top-three picks. It is the second-straight year that the Pacers find themselves in the draft lottery.

They did not move up in last year's lottery, but it didn't matter as they had already traded away their first-round pick.

This draft marks the first time that President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird has sole control of the decision-making process following the departure of Donnie Walsh to the New York Knicks.

Bird says the Pacers plan to use the draft, free agency and trades to rebuild the team. The Pacers are not expected to be major players in free agency because they are already over the salary cap and making a trade will probably be difficult because the players Indiana is likely to trade had problems staying healthy this past season.
