(ATLANTA, GA) - Indianapolis officials will present the city’s bid for the 2012 Super Bowl this afternoon at the NFL meetings in Atlanta.
Mark Miles, Chairman of the Indianapolis Super Bowl Committee, will be the first to present a bid. The Indianapolis presentation will be followed by those from Phoenix and Houston.
Indianapolis lost out to North Texas in an attempt to land the 2011 game. North Texas had the advantage in that the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington will hold more than 100,000 spectators. Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, which is scheduled to open this August, can be expanded to hold 70,000.
Colts Owner Jim Irsay and city officials say they are "cautiously optimistic" about the city's chances of landing Super Bowl 46.
Both Arizona and Houston have hosted Super Bowls in recent years. Houston's Reliant Stadium was the site of Super Bowl 38 in 2004 while University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale played host to Super Bowl 42 last February.
