Colts' Open Up Rookie Minicamp Friday

Last updated on Friday, May 2, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts open a three-day rookie minicamp today at the team’s headquarters.

It will be the first chance for the coaching staff to get up close looks at the team's nine selections from last weekend's NFL Draft. The workouts will also include 13 rookie free agents signed after the draft.

The purpose of the rookie camp is to allow the newcomers to become acclimated to life in the NFL and with the Colts before the veterans arrive in the middle of this month.

Those rookies who make the grade will participate in a mandatory full-squad minicamp that begins on May 16th.

The rookie camp is a good opportunity for Head Coach Tony Dungy and his staff to closely evaluate the free agents.

A reduction in the number of players allowed at training camp in late July makes it more difficult for teams to closely evaluate the rookies and this May be the lone chance for some of the longshots to make the team to impress the coaching staff.
