Colts Re-Sign Thomas To New Contract

Last updated on Wednesday, March 19, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts have re-signed unrestricted free agent defensive lineman Josh Thomas.

Terms of the deal were not available, but The Indianapolis Star reports that it was a one-year contract.

The four-year veteran who was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse by the Colts in 2004 had been in Nashville two weeks ago to speak with the Tennessee Titans. The horseshoes had already lost starting offensive guard Jake Scott to the Titans via free agency this month.

Thomas became a starter at defensive end last year after Dwight Freeney was lost for the season with a foot injury. Freeney's uncertain status made adding depth at defensive end a priority.

The Colts made an offer to free agent defensive end Tyler Brayton, but lost the former Oakland Raider to the Carolina Panthers.

Thomas played in 15 games last season, recording 28 tackles and one sack.
