Purdue Makes History, Keeps Winning Streak Alive

Last updated on Wednesday, February 13, 2008

(WEST LAFAYETTE, IN) - The twenty-third ranked Purdue Boilermakers have made history.

For the first time in the program's history, the Boilers have beaten top-ten teams in back-to-back games.

Purdue got 24 points and 11 rebounds from Big Ten player of the week Robbie Hummel and withstood a second-half rally by number nine Michigan State Tuesday, winning 60-54 at Mackey Arena. The Boilers led by 16 points at halftime after forcing 14 Michigan State turnovers, but Purdue missed their first 11 three-point attempts of the second half.

The Spartans got within one point on multiple occasions, the latest with three twenty-three left. The Boilers' only second-half three-pointer was crucial, as Hummel hit it with 1:36 left, giving Purdue a six point lead.

E'Twaun Moore scored 12 and Keaton Grant had 11 for the Boilers, while guard Kalin Lucas had 20 for MSU.

Purdue, now 20-and-5 and 11-and-1 in the Big Ten, has won 10 straight, their longest winning streak in a dozen seasons. Purdue, who has a two-game lead in the Big Ten, plays at Northwestern Saturday and faces 2nd place Indiana Tuesday.
