IU To Release List Of Violations By Basketball Coaching Staff

Last updated on Wednesday, February 13, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Indiana University is expected to release today a list of alleged violations from the NCAA regarding an investigation into the men’s basketball program.

The report stems from impermissible phone calls in 2006 and 2007 that the school reported were made by Coach Kelvin Sampson and his staff.

The initial indication by IU was that the staff made over 100 impermissible calls to recruits while on probation for infractions committed while Sampson was the head coach at the University of Oklahoma. The NCAA declared that Sampson and staff had made 577 impermissible calls from 2000 through 2004, resulting in his probation.

For the most recent calls, IU punished Sampson by taking away a $500,000 dollar raise he was scheduled to receive and reducing the team's scholarships by one for next season.

ESPN.com reports that the NCAA found further information since Indiana's report in October and could take further action.

Following today's announcement, IU has until June to prepare for a hearing in front of the NCAA.
