IndyCar And Champ Car Series Reach Agreement

Last updated on Saturday, February 9, 2008

(UNDATED) - In racing news, Speed-TV reports that Indy Racing League founder Tony George has reached an agreement with Champ Car World Series owners Kevin Kalkhoven and Jerry Forsythe for the two series to race together this season.

The sticking point right now according to the report is scheduling. One of the races the IndyCar series would acquire as part of the deal is the Long Beach Grand Prix, which is scheduled to run the same weekend as the IndyCar race in Motegi, Japan. Both sides are trying to work out a solution.

Elsewhere, Speedweeks got underway Friday at Daytona. Columbus, Indiana's Tony Stewart is the defending shootout winner.

All of the Sprint Cup drivers will be on the track this morning and again this afternoon preparing for Sunday's qualifying for the February 17th Daytona 500. Only the top two spots on the starting grid will be determined in Sunday's qualifying. The remaining spots will be set by Thusday afternoon's two 150-mile "duels".

David Gilliland won the pole for last year's 500 while Kevin Harvick is the defending race winner.
