Colts Tag Dallas Clark

Last updated on Wednesday, February 20, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts have placed the franchise tag on tight end Dallas Clark.

By tagging Clark, the Colts will offer the five-year veteran a one-year tender worth in excess of $4.5-million dollars. His contract voided at the end of the 2007 season.

The Colts had been negotiating with Clark on a long-term deal late last season, but instead signed defensive player of the year Bob Sanders to a five year, $37.5-million dollar contract.

They have until mid-July to reach a long-term deal with Clark in order to lessen the veteran tight end's hit on the Colts' salary cap. Other teams can try to sign Clark, but they would have to give the Colts two first-round draft choices.

Teams have until Thursday to designate franchise and transition players.
