IRL Founder: No More Deals For Champ Car Teams

Last updated on Monday, January 28, 2008

(UNDATED) - Indy Racing League founder Tony George says the window has closed for teams in the rival Champ Car World Series to receive financial assistance to join the IndyCar Series for 2008.

The Indianapolis Star reports that George made the offer to Champ Car leadership last fall, but that no teams came forward in a timely manner.

Champ Car co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven says he never received anything in writing from George.

Meanwhile, Champ Car team owner Carl Haas tells SpeedTV he plans to jump to the IndyCar series in 2009 provided there is no merger between the two open-wheel series.

Haas is a co-owner of Newman-Haas-Lanigan Racing, the most successful team in Champ Car.
