Purdue Claims Motor City Nailbiter

(DETROIT, MI) - Chris Summers kicked a 40-yard field goal as time expired to give the Purdue Boilermakers a 51-48 win over Central Michigan at the Motor City Bowl in Detroit.

Curtis Painter threw for a Motor City Bowl-record 546 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions as the Boilers built and lost a three-touchdown lead.

Dustin Keller, Greg Orton and Jake Standeford had over one hundred yards receiving with a touchdown catch with Kory Sheets scoring two touchdowns on the ground and Jaycen Taylor also scoring a rushing TD.

Purdue jumped on CMU early, scoring 21 points in the first quarter and building a 34-13 lead at halftime. The Chippewas came back in the third quarter, outscoring the Boilermakers 28-7 in the quarter to enter the final period tied at 41.

Purdue regained the lead with 8:19 remaining on Taylor's 13-yard touchdown run before the Chippewas tied it on a 19-yard pass from Dan Lefevour to Bryan Anderson with 1:09 left.

Purdue benefited from a short kickoff and drove into range for Summers' third field goal of the night.

Lefevour had a big night for the Chippewas, throwing for 292 yards and four touchdown passes while rushing for 114 yards and two more scores as Central Michigan's comeback fell just short.

Anderson caught seven passes for 129 yards and three touchdowns as Central Michigan finishes the season at 8-and-6.

Purdue snapped a three-game losing streak to finish with an 8-and-5 record.
