Coach Holstein Dead At 77

(BRADENTON, FLA.) - Former Ball State basketball coach Jim Holstein has died.

Holstein played five years in the NBA with the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons and the Minneapolis Lakers. He became the Cardinals' first fulltime coach when he arrived from Saint Joseph's in Rensselaer in 1972.

Holstein went 55-and-70 in five seasons, and presided over Ball State's entry into the Mid-American Conference. After Ball State, he coached the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne for 15 years.

Holstein was 77.
