O'Neal's Health Key To Successful Pacers Season

Last updated on Thursday, October 4, 2007

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Training camp continues this week for the Indiana Pacers.

The team will hold two-a-day practices through Sunday as they get ready for their preseason opener on Wednesday night when they host the New Orleans Hornets.

New coach Jim O'Brien has spent the practices getting the players acclimated to a new, up-tempo style of play. That has meant plenty of running and little wasted time during the sessions.

O'Brien was pleased with a scrimmage at the end of Wednesday's first practice as he cancelled the evening practice session. They will be back for two more practices today.

One key to the Pacers season will be the health of all-star forward Jermaine O'Neal. O'Neal is entering his twelfth NBA season despite being just 29 years old.

The wear and tear has taken its toll over the past three seasons as injuries have forced O'Neal to miss 82 games. He is healthy again following offseason surgery and will be the key figure as the Pacers try to become a playoff team once again.

The regular season begins on October 31st when the Pacers host the Washington Wizards.
