Colts Impressive In NFL Opener

Last updated on Friday, September 7, 2007

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Peyton Manning threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns as the Indianapolis Colts beat the New Orleans Saints 41-10 in the NFL regular season-opener.

Reggie Wayne started out slow, having his fumble returned 55 yards for a score by former Colt Jason David in the second quarter. Wayne would finish with seven receptions for 115 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Saints never could get on track offensively as Drew Brees, Reggie Bush and crew could muster only a field goal.

One of the big questions surrounding the colts was how the defense would play after losing four starters to free agency. The response was holding last season's top passing offense to three points.

Matt Giordano capped the scoring in the game by picking off a Brees pass and returning it 83 yards for a touchdown. Freddy Keiaho was impressive in replacing Cato June at outside linebacker. Keiaho had six tackles and an interception before leaving the game with a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter.

The Colts open division play on September 16th when they travel to Tennessee.
