Manning Now On A "Pitch Count"

Last updated on Friday, June 8, 2007

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - One item to come out of the Indianapolis Colts’ summer school workouts is that the team has started limiting the number of Peyton Manning’s throws during practice.

Manning used to take every snap in practice during the season, but now backup Jim Sorgi takes some of the repetitions.

During summer school, Assistant Head Coach Jim Caldwell is keeping track of the number of throws Manning makes, essentially putting the two-time MVP on a "pitch count".

Manning turned 31 during the offseason and is entering his tenth season with the Colts. He says the new approach helped him last season and that he did not have any arm fatigue during November and December.

Colts defensive back Tim Jennings spent Thursday morning's workout sidelined by a foot injury. Jennings' right foot was in a protective boot as Head Coach Tony Dungy says the team has decided to shut him down for a couple of days.

Jennings was the Colts' second-round draft pick in 2006 but missed much of his rookie season after undergoing ankle surgery.
