Last updated on Tuesday, May 29, 2007

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Dario Franchitti earned in excess of $1.6-million dollars for his win in Sunday’s Indianapolis 500.

Franchitti was presented a winner's check totaling $1,645,233 dollars at Monday's victory celebration at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Franchitti's share was part of a record $10,668,000 dollar purse.

Franchitti was in the lead when a second rain storm forced the race to be halted after 166 laps.

Also, Phil Giebler was named Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year at last night's victory celebration.

Giebler was the fastest rookie in the field, qualifying on the final day of time trials one day after damaging his car in an accident during a qualification run.

He finished 29th after being eliminated following an accident, completing 106 laps.

Milka Duno was the only other rookie in the field. Duno finished 31st after an accident on lap 65.
