(BLOOMINGTON) - Just when you thought relations in Monroe County government were already interesting, it just gets better, and even includes a candidate for Lawrence County office.

Yesterday, the Bloomington Herald Times reported Monroe County Council President Vic Kelson and monroe County Prosecutor Bob Miller asked for a special prosecutor to investigate the auditor's office about how a $350,000 appropriation was made to a county insurance fund that was unanimously denied by the council.

Well, now, the paper reports, the auditor says there's an explanation, and now is calling for Kelson's resignation. What's more, a candidate for Lawrence County Council is caught in the middle.

Monroe County Auditor Sandy Newmann says an employee of her office, Lawrence County Council Candidate Kristine Van Pelt, mistakenly processed the appropriation thinking it had been approved, however, when the mistake was discovered, steps were taken to rectify, all before Kelson filed his complaint.

Kelson says he wasn't alleging anything criminal, but wanted a pair of eyes to focus in on what happened.
