Ball State Receives Grant To Assist With Voting Systems
(MUNCIE) - When you buy a home computer, you do your homework so you feel more confident about your choice.
County government officials are in the same boat when it's time to buy the latest computerized voting systems.
Tom Wheeler with the Indiana Election Commission says it's become difficult for elected officials to keep up with the technology and ever-changing federal and state voting laws.
To help, Secretary of State Todd Rokita is giving a $162,000 grant to Ball State University's Bowen Center For Public Affairs to do the homework for them. Rokita says the center will advise the Indiana Voting Commission on voting system security, training for county election administrators and tracking the state's inventory of voting system hardware and software.
It's the first grant from the state's voting system technical oversight program, also known as V-Stop.
