Lugar Talks European Energy Strategy

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Indiana Senator Richard Lugar says NATO needs to lead the way in helping European countries work together on a common energy strategy.

Lugar told an energy conference in Washington that Europe needs to veer away from striking energy deals with Russia alone, because Russia has shown a willingness to turn off the power to get its way on political issues.

He says the former soviet republics of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have ample energy supplies, but instead of selling to Europe, they're selling to Russia as a middleman.
