Taxpayers Talk To Gov. Daniels

Last updated on Wednesday, March 12, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Dozens of taxpayers are urging Gov. Mitch Daniels to keep up the late-session push for property tax relief.

Daniels told the group from Delaware County and some realtors that he believed lawmakers were very close to a compromise tax relief package that would be fair to everybody.

Several taxpayers spoke one-on-one with Daniels outside his office Tuesday, saying they were hurting from high bills and thanking him for pushing a relief plan. Daniels thanked them for their support but said they were preaching to the choir. He told them to go to the third floor of the statehouse and express their concerns to lawmakers.

Private negotiations on a property tax plan continue as a midnight Friday deadline for adjournment looms.
