Property Tax Reform Bill Signed, Governor Praises House Speaker
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Daniels has formally signed the property-tax reform bill he pushed through the General Assembly.
House Speaker Patrick Bauer, Senate President Pro Tem David Long and Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman joined Daniels for a signing ceremony in the Statehouse rotunda.
The package will provide an immediate cut averaging 30% on this year's bills, then cap tax bills at 1% of your home's value.
Daniels hopes to write the cap into the state constitution -- the legislature will have to review that issue in 2009 or 2010.
The governor singled out his frequent adversary Bauer for praise, crediting him with working in a true spirit of compromise to hammer out a final bill all sides could be proud of.
