Deal Reached On Property Tax Plan?

(STATEHOUSE) - Democratic and Republican negotiators have reached agreement on a plan to cut and cap property taxes and leaders have been explaining a deal on property-tax relief to their members.
Governor Daniels appears to have gotten most of what he wanted: an immediate 25% cut in property taxes, a cap on taxes based on property values--1% for homes, 2% for farms, 3% for businesses--and the start to a constitutional amendment to make those caps permanent.
Assistant House Minority Leader Eric Turner says a vote should come Friday.
The package includes referendum on at least some construction projects. Turner says that's one of the more complex elements of the compromise that legislators are still trying to understand.
