(INDIANAPOLIS) - After receiving a letter from Secretary of State Todd Rokita, the Marion County Election Board has agreed to provide touch- screen voting machines at all locations for the special election for the 7th Congressional District on March 11th.
The board had originally planned to make the machines available for the disabled only upon request.
Rokita says the machines have to be there not only for people with disabilities but because anyone who wants to use them has a statutory right under state and federal law to do that.
Rokita says the county would be begging for multiple lawsuits by the disabilities community and others, possibly the justice department, if they didn't comply.
White disagrees with Rokita's interpretation but will comply. She says if the special election doesn't run smoothly, the county might have to buy more touch- screen voting machines for the may primary.
