Opposing Political Views And A Happy Marriage?
(INDIANAPOLIS) - If rival political consultants James Carville and Mary Matalin can have a happy marriage, so can you.
An Indianapolis counselor says in relationships in which partners are at odds politically, their views tend to mature and move closer together over time.
Methodist Hospital's David Holling says when a political discussion starts to turn ugly, the first rule is to remain calm. Holling says if you can't sit through a conversation hearing others' political views, maybe you have some unresolved issues.
He says it's healthy to have fun political discussions, but it's necessary to have ground rules. He also cautions against stockpiling beefs with your partner, then blasting him or her when you can't take anymore.
