McCain To Make Campaign Stop In Indy

(INDIANAPOLIS) - John McCain, the all-but-certain republican presidential nominee, will make a campaign stop in Indianapolis Friday.

The Arizona senator will hold an invitation-only fundraising lunch at the Conrad Hotel Downtown. There's likely to be an additional Indianapolis campaign event beforehand, but exactly what and where is still to be determined.

State Republican Spokesman Jay Kenworthy says it's believed to be McCain's first Indiana visit since December 2006.

McCain raised $163,000 dollars in Indiana last year. That's the fourth-highest among the GOP candidates, trailing Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, and longshot hopeful Ron Paul.

Kenworthy says now that the uncertainty surrounding the race has cleared, McCain should have no trouble getting Hoosier donors to contribute.

Gov. Mitch Daniels and Attorney General Steve Carter were early McCain supporters. In the two weeks since McCain all but cemented the nomination with a strong showing on Super Tuesday, he's added endorsements from State GOP Chairman Murray Clark, Secretary of State Todd Rokita and Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi.
