Illegal Immigration Proposal Alive Again At Statehouse
(INDIANAPOLIS) - A bid to crack down on illegal immigration is alive again, despite bitter protests from House Republicans.
A proposal to yank the licenses of businesses who hire illegals has been amended into another bill, with a final vote possible tomorrow.
Republicans walked out of the House Thursday, complaining the switch to a different bill prevented them from offering amendments. Instead of adjourning the House, Speaker Patrick Bauer declared it in recess... meaning the GOP still couldn't file amendments today.
Republican leaders are still fuming, but returned to the floor rather than jeopardize a property-tax circuit breaker.
