Illegal Immigration Bill Gets Changed In State House

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A House committee has advanced a bill to crack down on companies hiring illegal immigrants but made some changes to it.
Under the proposal, companies could have their business licenses suspended or revoked if they hire illegal workers after 2009.
The House Public Policy Committee made several changes to the bill, including adding $1.5 million of state money to help enforce the law.
Some Republican lawmakers say other changes watered down the bill. But some Democrats say the money for enforcement makes the bill stronger.
